J-pop’s back-to-school week hit different. Nine different camps — idols, rappers, veterans, and one queer house-pop duo — all dropped in the same 72-hour window. Here’s your cheat sheet before the timeline gets away from you.
1. Leo Ieiri — 31
Ieiri’s ninth full album is named after her own age, and it’s her most personal statement yet: 12 tracks produced entirely by Ryosuke “Dr.R” Sakai (the same guy behind hits for HANA, chanmina, and milet), working through the doubts and contradictions of turning 31. It also folds in a solo rework of last year’s “Mirror,” originally a duet with Kosuke Saito. Fourteen years into her career, this is the sound of an artist choosing to update her own image on her own terms.

2. Manaka — Pretty Machine Gun II
The sequel to last year’s genre-hopping debut lands with 10 tracks and an even wider stylistic range — electronic, alt, and rap all collide, with guest spots from Litty, DADA, 7, and lil soft tennis. Manaka self-directed and self-edited the video for lead track “Drip on my body,” which tells you everything about how hands-on her creative control has gotten in just over a year.

3. Dr.Anon — second opinion
The e5 / killwiz / 嚩ᴴᴬᴷᵁ trio reunited for a new EP that leans further into the underground with features from Dynox (known for work with Lil Tecca and Trippie Redd) and rising name waera. If you’ve been tracking Japan’s alt-rap/hyperpop underground, this is a must-add.

4. TAKARA — 宝 (Takara)
This is the one stan twitter should really be watching. ASHA and KOKONA — both standout contestants from the BMSG × chanmina audition show No No Girls — reunited as duo TAKARA and dropped their debut single “Time is money” on Aug 8, which hit #1 on YouTube’s weekly music video chart. Sixteen days later, their debut EP arrives with three additional tracks, including the more emotionally open “明るい夢 (Akarui Yume).” Fast rollout, fast rise — this is a debut arc worth following in real time.

5. Snow Man — AMENITY
The full album doesn’t land until October 7, but nine of its 14 tracks — including chart-topping lead single “グッタイム” — are streaming now. The concept: the group plays staff at a fictional hotel called “HOTEL ALL SUITE,” with each member cast as a different kind of host across genres from funk-pop to jazz-pop to R&B. Worth noting for collectors: due to member Ren Meguro’s activity status, most content excludes him except for two specific tracks and their videos.

6. MIKADO — FAME FLAME
The Wakayama-born rapper’s new 19-track album is a trap tour of where he’s been and where he’s headed, with T-Pablow, Tiji Jojo, Young Coco, Kohjiya, Jellyyabashi, HARKA, and Mel Eden all showing up on features. Production is anchored by Homunculu$ with additional beats from TRILL DYNASTY, Neetz, VetteBoy, june, and more. If you’re into the current trap scene coming out of Japan, this is a big one.

7. Mika Nakashima — “祈り、終われば (Inori, Owareba)”
Nakashima’s new single serves as the ending theme for anime Mushoku Tensei III, written and composed by Shinoda of rock band Hitorie, who also handled the arrangement and performance. The music video is a one-take-style nighttime chase through a playground, with Hitorie’s members appearing on camera alongside her — an unusual full-band cameo for a Nakashima release.

8. Kana Nishino — Power of Love EP
Nishino’s first anime tie-in since returning to activity, “Power of Love” is the second-cour opening theme for Ascendance of a Bookworm: The Adopted Daughter of a Noble. The EP arrives in three editions and marks a callback moment too — she’s wearing her early-2010s signature boater hat again in the jacket art, a deliberate nod to her breakout era.

9. Seiko Oomori — BABY! PINK! MUSIC!
Oomori’s 10th album is her first in about two years, arranged entirely by sugarbeans and recorded with her long-running backing band. The premium CD edition is genuinely wild — it’s packaged inside a cookie-tin-style case with magnet sets shaped like her mascot character. Twelve tracks, and a release-week live event to match the chaos.

10. Takashi Ichi & JYAGA — “Okaaayyy!!! (Extended Mix)”
The queer house anthem that soundtracked your July just got a proper club-length rework: the Extended Mix of “Okaaayyy!!!” dropped Aug 26. R&B/house artist Ichi Takashi teamed up with JYAGA — both publicly queer — for a ballroom- and voguing-inspired house track name-checking real Shinjuku Ni-chōme venues like AiSOTOPE LOUNGE and EAGLE TOKYO. The original was the lead single from an upcoming joint EP; this extended cut is built for the floor.
