MIKADO is a rapper from Wakayama who has emerged as one of the notable young voices in Japan’s current trap and hip-hop scene. His music combines heavy trap production with a direct, conversational flow and a distinctly Japanese perspective.
Coming out of Wakayama rather than one of Japan’s traditional hip-hop centers, MIKADO has built his profile through collaborations with artists from across the country’s rapidly expanding underground rap scene. His music reflects the increasingly fluid boundaries between Japanese hip-hop, trap and the internet-driven underground.
MIKADO’s collaborative network is one of the clearest indicators of his position within the scene. His releases have brought him together with artists including T-Pablow, Tiji Jojo, Young Coco, Kohjiya, Jellyyabashi, HARKA and Mel Eden, connecting him to several different corners of contemporary Japanese rap.
His sound is particularly suited to the current global trap landscape: sparse but heavy production, melodic hooks, Auto-Tuned vocals and an emphasis on atmosphere as much as traditional lyricism. At the same time, his Japanese-language delivery gives the music an identity that goes beyond simply reproducing American trap formulas.
In August 2026, MIKADO released FAME FLAME, a 19-track album that brings together a particularly large cast of collaborators and producers. With production from names including Homunculu$, TRILL DYNASTY, Neetz, VetteBoy and june, the album serves as a snapshot of where MIKADO — and the wider Japanese trap scene around him — is heading.
