Review: IS:SUE – PHASE

IS:SUE made a triumphant comeback with their fourth single album PHASE today.

As symbolized by the lyric “even if I’m incomplete like a crescent moon, that’s still who I am” in “Phase,” all four songs share a lunar theme, resulting in a body of work that reflects the group’s ongoing commitment to messages of self-acceptance.

Phase

Undoubtedly their most captivating lead track, “Phase” opens with an ethereal intro before locking into a chorus driven by a crawling synth bass and a beat infused with Afro-music influences, its hypnotic pull undeniable and its weight more than sufficient to showcase their one-and-only allure with confidence and intent.

Super Luna

Upon its release, “Super Luna” quickly became fan favourite as well as drawing attention from global K-pop/J-pop stans. Driven by a four-on-the-floor beat, this ’80s-inspired synth-pop track follows in the wake of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” pairing J-pop–tinged electric guitar tones and irresistibly catchy melodies with RINO’s unexpectedly virtuosic vocal runs, while its Sailor Moon–inspired performance video further amplifies the buzz.

Moonlight Dance

Drawing on a funky synth loop evocative of EXO’s “Growl,” alongside a minimalist beat and addictive sampling, “Moonlight Dance” marshals every element to construct a mature, sensual aesthetic. Live performances elevate the mood further through stick-based choreography.

Any Minute

“Any Minute” is a sexy, mid-tempo R&B tune, highlighted by chorus work reminiscent of ’90s R&B groups like TLC and SWV—an approach rarely heard among Japanese female dance-vocal groups.

PHASE comes with seven different versions, including three Fan Club exclusive verions.
